Cupcake Craze

This cupcake store trend is taking over, much like yogurt stores.  I just think that some of them are so overrated!  I don't like Sprinkles very much, Crumbs ones are too big and too sweet...I find myself wishing I could get chocolate cupcakes from the Bridgecreek bakery that my grandma used to go to when I was little, but it's been gone for years.

Well, we found a close runner-up in Frosted.  My friend had them at her baby shower a couple weekends ago and they reminded me of the ones my grandma used to get.  So my mom and I went to Belmont Shores yesterday to pick up a little assortment.  They're really good!!  Good frosting, not too sweet, moist cake, good flavor, good size...woohoo!

Beachcomber!

I ran into some unexpected fun yesterday!  My cousin Monet came over in the morning to "work" from our house because we have wi-fi, and we were gonna take a lunch break and drive to Laguna to go to Taco Loco.  As we were driving near Crystal Cove, Monet described this place called The Beachcomber (we'd had plans to go here in February but they fell through) and their awesome martinis and tomato soup with pastry crust and gorgonzola.  That's pretty much all we needed to hear and we dropped our Taco Loco plans immediately.  Two seconds later we were on the trolley down the beach.

PhotobucketThe 45 minute wait was worth it; we sat in the bar and tested out the martinis and calamari.  Really good!!  We used the excuse that I'm on Spring Break (I didn't go on "vacation" so I'm counting each day as a little vacation to myself!), Monet on her "emancipation" from her job...and my mom hopped on my "Spring Break" bandwagon.

Lunch was soooo good.  Our waitress seemed to have multiple personality disorder, but we wouldn't let it bug us.  It was a perfect day out, and even I enjoyed being at the beach.  Don't pee your pants.

We split the tomato soup, French onion soup, mini ahi tacos and filet cobb salad.  Everything was super delicious!

After lunch we took a stroll on the beach and tried to find some sea anemones in the tide pools, but there wasn't much sea life out.  It was kind of weird.

PhotobucketOur walk back to the car was definitely entertaining.  We opted to go under PCH through the tunnel, rather than take the trolley again.

It ended up being a random and fun Monday!  I still can't believe I live this close to a place I've never been that is so cool.  I'm definitely going back SOON!

Sleep Playlist

Every time I play this "playlist" from my iPod, people seem to ask me for a list of the songs from it.  There's actually almost 300 songs on my version, but I made a playlist here for whoever wants to use it.  It really does help me sleep!

Introducing, Greyson Simington!

Photobucket
My good friend, Natalie, had her baby boy this morning!  Greyson (undecided) Simington was born today, March 29, 2009 at 8:15 a.m., weighing 7 lbs. and 19.5 inches.  He was a long time coming, and I'm so excited for Natalie and her daughter, Abby.

Nellie's 27th Birthday, Round 2!!

Last night we celebrated Janelle's birthday (again!), at Mahe, in Seal Beach.  It was so fun!  It was me, Janelle, my mom, her mom and Autumn.  And obviously, if Autumn is there, a million weird photographic moments occur and I try to capture as many as I can.

Toby, and Chris, who is now a head chef there, came out to visit too.

PhotobucketWe cabbed it back to Huntington, where Janelle pooped out on her own party, but we kept goin'.  The moms, Autumn and I went to Aloha for....you guessed it, Rainbows.  It was a funny night, and we were glad Autumn was finally out with us after being M.I.A. for a while!

Over and done in less than 8 hours - a new record!

Riddle me this...why do I seem to have the worst luck on the planet when it comes to men?  I'm not kidding, or looking for sympathy.  It has almost become a joke with me!

So today, my mom, my friend Autumn and her mom, Linda, went to R&D in Newport for lunch (one of my favorite places ever, by the way).  We sat at the bar, and this really cute guy sat down next to me at the open stool.  Throughout our meal, he sort of made small talk with me and was pretty friendly, blah blah blah.  I never am forward with guys, but I knew my company was watching my every move and expecting something to come of this.  As we were leaving, I asked how long he was in town, and he said for the night and then was coming back Sunday.  All I said was that he should give me a call next time he is in town, and then he asked what my plans were for the night and said I should meet him that night at Rudy's in Newport.  Hmmm...

So around 7:15 he texted saying he was there and asked if I was headed that way.
I said yeah, but it would be about an hour or so before I got there, and would they still be there?
He said yes, so I said I'd text on my way.
I texted on my way, and 20 minutes later, as my friend Jamie and I were walking through the parking lot, I pretty much ran right into him.
He said they were going to get his car in Corona Del Mar because he wanted to re-park it near the bars.  He seemed happy to see me, introduced me to his friends, met mine (Jamie apologized for us running late), and said he'd be right back, and that he'd meet us inside.

Almost an hour goes by, and he doesn't return.  We decide I can't be rude and just leave, after making them wait for us for almost 2 hours (Jamie was driving in from Tustin)...so I text him after it had been an hour...and no response!  I have no idea what happened there, but that's pretty much the quickest things have been over, haha!  I'm still a little baffled, but whatever.

Anyways, we left and went back to Huntington, where we met friends at Sandbox, then eventually downtown for a bit.

Repeat

Last week I went to Savanna, Aloha and Gallaghers, and last night I had a little repeat.  My friend, Emily, from FIDM, and my friends CJ and Matt, went to Savanna for dinner (hittin' up the $10 thing again!).  This time I had the halibut - eh, I think the filet was way better.  If you go, get the filet.

PhotobucketWe carried our entertainment to Aloha to drink some rainbows, and then Gallaghers, where they had some strange jazz-ish music playing.
PhotobucketApparently we were so exciting, Matt fell asleep while sitting upright.
PhotobucketThe most entertaining part of the night was our cab ride to CJ's.  Our driver was this crazy Swedish lady whose laugh was infectious.  She even got out of the car to hug us at the end of the ride, still laughing hysterically.  Were we funny?  Or is she always like that?  Anyway, CJ got her card before she left so I hope we can ride with her again in the future.

Where The Wild Things Are

I can't wait to see this movie!  The trailer looks great and I love that Arcade Fire song!

Nellie's 27th Birthday, Round 1

Last night we went to Mario's for Janelle's birthday with her mom, boyfriend, brothers, sisters-in-law, and their munchkins.  I don't know whose genius idea it was to walk there, but it was pretty entertaining.

The little girlies were cracking me up as usual; Hanna playing with my bling, Hailee doing ballet with me, and Kaylee posing for the camera every time she saw my phone.

Also, I got Janelle one of my favorite items EVER for her gift...Bond No. 9 perfume in the new scent, Brooklyn.  It smells so good, and the bottle is rad!

Halfway done!!!

So I'm halfway done with my year at FIDM.  Yesterday I had my final Drafting class and my final Trends class.  Phew!  My 2 best FIDM buddies and I felt the need to celebrate, so we went to happy hour at Ra and then had some Rainbows at Aloha Grill.  Always remember the float!

PhotobucketAnd now, I have 2 weeks free...what am I going to do with myself?!  I haven't had spare time in a while!!!
